Young Stars Take the Stage (TFCAofGP Meet #5 - Glen Mills 01/14/22) -
2.0 years ago

After a long journey to Glen Mills this past Friday, the young stars of the team seized their opportunities and led the way for the Patriots.

Sophomore shot put thrower Jacob Tannenbaum was the sole medalist for the day with a 5th place throw of 35’10”. Meanwhile, the young sprinters shined in the freshmen/sophomore 4x200-meter relay. Executing clean handoffs and overcoming some interference along the way, Duncan McGarvey, Zach Mancini, Roman Messina, and Emilio Chmel finished second overall among the young squads. McGarvey also qualified for the finals in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.33 and ran a 7.88 in the finals to finish sixth overall. Messina also notched a top-ten finish when he placed ninth in the 400 with a 58.28.

In the 4x800-meter relay, sophomore Brandon Gaona ran his first four-lapper of the season with a 2:28. Next up, three freshmen showed their consistency by running near personal bests or close to them in their second 800s of the year. Trey DiGregorio came back with personal record of 2:31 followed by Alex Antonucci with a 2:47 and Jack Riba with a personal best of 2:36 as the anchor. Freshman Will Menard, sophomore Kevin Lane, freshman Brody Mindel, and freshman Dan Walsh ran tough against the competition as they all made their debut in the 400 as members of the 4x400-meter relay.

Not to be outdone by his younger teammates, senior Adi Badrinath had an outstanding season debut in the 800. Going out strong on the first lap and finishing even stronger on the last lap, Badrinath ran a 2:23.03; smashing his outdoor personal best by several seconds.
