Patriots Build on Early Season Success (TFCAofGP Meet #2: Lehigh 12/18/21) -

Returning to Lehigh for the second straight week, the Patriots built on their early-season success and earned two Meet of Champion-qualifying performances, five medals, six top ten performances, and nine personal records.

Senior Evan Clark won the team’s highest medal on the day with a silver in the 400 by clocking a 53.15 and secured his place in the Meet of Champions. Senior Nik Ventura won not just one, but two medals on the day! First, Ventura won a bronze medal in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.18 in the finals. Even more impressive was his race in the trials in which he won his heat and set a personal record of 9.10 while qualifying for the Meet of Champions. Then, Ventura snagged a fourth-place medal when he made his season debut in the triple jump with a personal record of 41’4”. Senior Jack Steitz made his season debut in the high jump and earned a fourth-place medal with a jump of 5’6”.

Three relays, the 4x800, the Distance Medley Relay, and the 4x400, finished in the top ten on the day. The 4x400 of junior Joe Sims (57.69), Steitz (55.99), senior Patrick Kleemeier (personal record of 54.98), and junior Josh Daniels (56.16) earned a fifth-place medal. The 4x800 was eighth as Daniels set a six-second personal record of 2:12.09 while freshman Trey DiGregorio had a major redemption race with a 13-second personal record of 2:31.77 and freshman Brody Mindel broke the 2:30-barrier with a personal record of 2:27.20. The third leg, senior Cole Kochan, also ran in the 6th-place finishing Distance Medley Relay where he set a personal record of 2:25.15. Kleemeier had his second personal record of the day in the 1200-leg while junior Joe Sims ran 57.33 in the 400 and junior James Sexton made his indoor 1600 debut with a time of 4:58.90.

There were several other promising debuts. Sophomore Jacob Tannenbaum smashed his personal best in the shot put with a chuck of 39’5.5” and finished ninth overall. Senior Pierson Stallings ran his first 3000 in 10:04.29 and finished eighth overall. Sophomore Roman Messina led off the freshmen/sophomore 4x400-meter relay with a 57.58.
